Wątek: good and accessible mail client?

Hi there,
So I've been looking for something like this for a while now. Thunderbird looks good, the big issue right now with it is that you have to shift tab a bunch of times to get back to the inbox when you're done reading a message, and there's no easy way to view from, sent, to, etc like you can in outlook. Out of everything I've tryed I like outlook the most, but I can't really get it now since as far as I know there's no way to get without buying the hole office 365 package.
Thanks in advance.

You can close your messages by pressing CTRL+W and with F6 you can switch between inbox and toolbars.

There is a bit of tweaking to get all the clutter out, but I like Thunderbird just fine. The only slight gripe I have with it is with attachments. That's a bit clunky.

I've turned off the quick filter and such like. You can experiment with what works for you.

I turned off blocking of remote content because that got very spammy after a while reading emails. Are there any other settings you would recommend?

In view, the only two toolbars I have checked are number one and number five.

I saw on whitestick.co.uk you could get a coppy of outlook that worked with windows 8 I'm not sure if it's free or not. I personally like outlook express, but have gotten used to thunderbird.

Yeah, now I know about control + W, thanks for that btw, this thing is a lot more usable.

I've used Becky Mail for a while before switching to Thunderbird. It needs some tweaks in the message view settings to optimize accessibility, and screenreaders probably need some scripts and addons to gather e. g. message state information and so on. Appart from that I still like Becky because it uses a classic Windows UI, making it very fast in comparison to the rather clumsy MozillaUI.

Hello,
Do you know of a way how to make attachments more accessible? When there is one attachment it's ok, but when there is more than one then I cannot see the list unless I fittle around with NVDA currsor.

In thunderbird 68 this is fixed.

O and here's a really easy way to read messages in thunderbird. I got used to the tabbing, so I don't use it, but it's really easy if you think about it. First, press f8 to not see the message content in the main window. Then, if you're on a message in the messages table, simply press enter to view its content. Once finished reading, you can press ctrl+w to close it and carry on.

I have it set in preferences somehow so I didn't know about the f8 thing. You can also fix it to where you can press escape to close the message. I prefer control w for some reason.

Try the bat! I also had older version of thunderbird, but with new versions I have strange accessibility problems with nvda.

Someone say Shift-Tabbing too many times? Try F6 and Shift+F6 to go forward/reverse through the panels. It saves me serious time.
On average I barely spend 10 minutes inside of ThunderBird just from that alone.
I mark my spam as junk, read what I want to see then compact and empty trash.
Then just let TB rest for a day, or two, or a week, etc.

I'm prone to use f6 as well lately.

Just disable Lightnin (Menu\Tools\AddOns).
