Hi,
For the past few days, I've been having a strange and annoying problem where system event sounds in Windows 11 V 22H2, such as hardware insert, hardware remove, notifications etc, are refusing to play. They also refuse to play when I go to the sounds tab in mmsys.cpl, highlight a sound event and test it with Alt + T.
I've done all the basic troubleshooting stuff, like ensuring that sound events are mapped properly, checking my audio devices are set up properly (I'd have a job typing this right now if they weren't), even running commands such as sfc /scannow, dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth, and dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth, making sure to reboot after each command for good measure, all to no avail.
I've already backed up my important files, so before I format this thing and reinstall Windows, does anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve this?
Thank you in advance.

Could it be that they are simply muted in your volume mixer?

Turns out they were muted all this time, though Microsoft's button labelling made me think they weren't and everything was OK.

Yeah I was gonna say check your volume mixer and either unmute it or set everything to default
