Musescore? The last time, maybe 5 or 6 years ago I tried to use it but it was totally inaccessible. But worths a try.

Yeah, although without a midi keyboard it's quite difficult. Tried to mess around with it but have only the built in virtual midi keyboard, so.

to activate the virtual midi keyboard
1, insert an instrement, find them ad freevst.com, or just google a vst plugin and find one.
2, close the sfx dialog wich pops up and press alt+b
3, use keys z to 0 I think, and happy playing, if you want to fix the delay, buy an external sound cart.
And that, is why you shouldn't do this.
