Hello, community!
So, the question is in the title: what is wrong with Elten? To where we are going?
I am a bit angry and very disapointed but now I will try to explain what I mean in detail.

Firstly, I have noticed that it looks like Elten becomes slower and slower every day.
A few months ago it taked only one or two seconds to load "what is new" menu. Now it takes about 4 or 5 seconds and it does not depend on my internet connection.
Seriously, guys! Big websites, messengers with tonns of chats load faster than Elten, what the hell!

Second, Elten has lots of cool features but all of them look like not completed development.
You can reply to posts in forum but you cannot see if that post is a reply, the only way is to quote the original message.
You can mention someone but mentioning with at sign (@) does not work. Seriously, it works everywhere, but not in Elten.
Conference system is cool, with 2d space what makes it more similar to real life or some kind of very simple VR.
But there is still no spam filters or any kind of slow mode to protect users from situations when someone sends millions of text.
Looks like the developers not learned anything from the incident with user1 user2 user3... if you know what i mean.

Third, looks like elten is built around opus and vorbis codecs. No way to download anything in flac, mp3, m4a, other useful formats. in some cases there is even no way to download wav. only this shitty opus.

And about downloads: when you try to save any file from forum or a blog, it always tries to name it as "username.opus". it does not mater if there is already a file with this name in this folder. it does not mater that owner had set file name. it always will be username.opus and you have to think about names yourself.
When i tried to download some music from someone's blog it was a pain.

Also, as my girlfriend told me, moderation system sucks more and more every day. Admins and developer react in a week, month... Some day it would be one year before reaction. Maybe.
If you are moderator, you can ban from forum but not from conference. It is strange too.
Btw, lets think about how many years those user1 user2 user10000 banned accounts will stay here in user lists. why not remove them if this ban is permanent?!!

Oh and another bullshitty thing!
Today as always i had to wait for 5 or even 7 seconds while elten was thinking about what is new in my account.
while it started to load, i have used magic alt+tab to warp to the other window and do some other job.
After a minute i came back to elten aaaaaaand......
Try to guess, guys! it continued loading!
i am sorry but what the shitty hell is wrong!
seriously! it does not load in background! what?!!
I just have no words, only f**k f**k f**k and nothing else!

And finaly, the incident with youtube program that happened yesterday.
For peopple who do not know, you can read the topic about politics in this forum, started by ArcticMoon.
In short, if you have russian locale in your system, youtube program in elten tels you that this program is prohibited for russian and belarus and you have to set environment variable "fuck_russia=1" to avoid this restriction.
When ArcticMoon created a topic about this, Pajper had come and told that maybe some day laaaater he maybe thinks about a possibility to fix this strange thing.
I bet that it will not be fixed. just because he will disapear again. very sad laugh goes here.

First of all, I don't think vulgar language will help us solve the problem, will it?

Unfortunately, the English Elten community suffers from some problems, but perhaps the most important of them is the chaos prevailing here. I don't know, I honestly don't know how active nuno is as an administrator, but even now there is a person with moderator status who hasn't logged in for a year.
There is no organized structure and order here that would allow even to ensure contact with me.

In fact, it is here that efficient and harmonious, active administration is needed. Then you can move on to other solutions.
Because, not to look far, the issue of banning at conferences has long been solved and moderators can do it.

@pajper sorry for my vulgar language, i just was too angry and couldnt control my speech.
Of course I use other solutions for communication, for example teamtalk, discord, telegram of course, facebook, vk, etc.
But here in elten are lots of interesting people who do not use other services and so i am here.
So would be better if elten goes forward, but not backward.

About administration and moderation system, i dont know exactly because i am not moderator or admin, but as i know from one of moderators, this system sucks now. no reliable way for communication, very very very slow reaction from admins, etc.

Cyrmax, I've already explained to you how unfortunate is that moderators don't even have a group to talk and discuss problems in the community. And sorry but I can't help this platform alone. I also have university, maybe work, I simply can't log in every day and deal with spoiled 12 year olds who have no other playground but elten.

@ArcticMoon yes, i remember. And this is very very sad situation.
Even a very young community TifloGames have a group for administration conversations, dedicated room in discord, dedicated room in teamtalk and separate group for server and website alerts.
i am not an admin anymore, but it was cool to work with them because if problem appears, one of admins reacts immediately.

Yes, you told me how it works and it was always pleasant to see the way how effectively you worked together with the other admins and moderators. We need something like that in Elten as well, but until noone acts, it'll stay like that.
And sorry, but I simply can't go against my morals and help a platform, which shows discriminatory behavior against a nation, from which the nicest and most valuable person in my life comes.
Yes, maybe I went too far and involved personal thoughts, but that's what I think.

I was not very active before 2023 march. but when i just came to elten a few years ago it looked much more fast, reliable and populated.
i didnt use it actively but the first impression was so.

I registered in 2018. I told you many times that at that period of time I even wanted to translate elten into hungarian, because I wanted to see it grow. And now, from a side I regret I didn't do so, but from another I absolutely don't. We all know what klango was, and to be honest I've never liked this kind of isolation from the so quoted sighted world, if we can call it that way. You tell a sighted person that you're using elten, they'll look at you and laugh. They will never register here just to reach you.

The same situation with all the games which only blind folks can play. My sisters tried out quentin c playroom, but they got bored really quickly. And that game has a proper UI that can be seen. As far as I know, elten doesn't have even that.

There are some sighted players, yes. But it's very, very rare and not usual at all. But now seriously, a sighted person will never install NVDA or any screen reader just to be able to read the contents of this program.
Maybe it's only my opinion, but I've always adapted to sighted people. One wants to use viber, ok let's go. One wants to use whatsapp, well let's try. Another one wants discord, well we haven't tried it before, let's go. I know many people aren't like me, and that's why even at the moment there are like 80 people online here. I'm not saying this thing is bad, but if it already exists, we've got to get things in order.

Hi, I get what you two say on these posts. It's a pity elten is becoming like this especially the english community forum. @artic moon, I'm not sure what you mean by another country? I assume, it's the political correctness thread?

And yes, I do agree, most if not all sighted people hangout on twitter, facebook, mastadawn, and many others for that matter. I admit, I like the blind social networks, like qcp, and the rest, because I don't have to explain much. At least for me. Elten definatly has potential. But to sort things out is the challenge.

More angry updates about Elten's speed.
The flow is following:
I am in main menu;
I receive message and get a notification about it (so now elten already knows about the sender and maybe about message content);
I press "what is new" button;
* waiting for 3 seconds;
New messages 1;
* waiting for 3 seconds;
No subject, from <username> <date>;
* waiting for 2 seconds;
* reading messages.

So 8 seconds only to read this one new message. 8 seconds! what the hell!
Even in telegram i spend less time, even if unigram is closed.
unigram opens about two seconds.
another two seconds is to find a chat and read messages.
So 4 or 5 seconds in a big messenger. and if the app is closed.

If this case happens in elten i would wait for opening and logging in for 7 seconds, after that those 3 seconds to receive new events and so on.

I have the only question to @pajper:
why?
As i see, you have users who pay for premium features. So probably you have money to rent a server with adequate specs, not a vps with 1 core for 2 dollars per month.
Or your app is written with so bad architecture?
Or i don't know, sorry.

Of course you can answer me like our russian developer Ivan Denishev with something like "Write your own better network and make it faster than Elten".
And i would do it. But i do not want to produce more posibilities for russian blind people to isolate and separate, so i will not do this.

But i think that if you are developer, you publish your product, you even get money for some features. Than make this product faster, better, smoother, move it forward.

Btw, guys, tell me please how many significant updates you have seen in Elten in last year or two?
As i remember there were none.
Because when i only registered here it was elten 2.4 and now it is 2.5. so maybe there were improvements, bug fixes, but no new features or significant upgrades.

Cyrmax as far as I know elten is written in Ruby. I'm not a programmist so my knowledge is limited, but I read somewhere that it's already really old and slow. Maybe that's why we are having problems. Anyway, as far as I'm aware, Elten is open source so you as a programmist could see what's wrong :)

The last significant and let's say life changing update was when they introduced conferences. Other than that, I saw only more premium packages available. :)
