Wątek: how to create a karaoke track

Hi. Is there an efficient way how I, as a blind, can create a Karaoke track, in other words, remove voices from songs? I found a video on Youtube where someone showed how to do it using Audacity, but it was from a sighted person's perspective of course, and that didn't help much. Could someone explain it again from the perspective from a screen reader user or show me another way to do it?
Any help would be appreciated.

If the author of this video named labeled buttons, you could try to find them with NVDA's object-navigation.

Well, I managed to find a few options, but it didn't really work. I think there's something he said which could be understood by sighted people only, but has an important part in the process. @ Eric, in fact, the tutoreal was in German.

Ok, i found the instrumental version of the song I wanted instrumental now, but it would still interest me how to do it.

If you have the LADSPA or Nyquist plugins installed, you will find a Karaoke effect somewhere in the menu. There's also a Karaoke item in the view menu, but I haven't figured out how to use it.
Here's how to do it manually:

1. Import a stereo track.
2. In the track view, open context menu and select "split stereo to mono", this will create two separate mono tracks.
3. Select one of the tracks and open effect menu. From the built-in effects, select "invert".

That should do the job. You probably might have to lower the volume of each track as the result is twice as loud as in the original stereo track.

Unfortunately, there's no method to deliver a pristine quality karaoke track from a full song. Removing the vocals will also damage other instruments which share the same frequencies. If you want karaoke tracks such as those made for supertalent shows such as DSDS, you'll need to make it in a studio, the process is same like making a full song. Though, for a karaoke party, the youtube trick will do a perfect job. Just explaining.

@ radiorobbe, Ah, thanks. That sort of worked, but the instrumental version I found on youtube is definitely better.

chrisstefanovski1 is correct, the ability to reduce vocals is entirely depednent on the nature of the song, and more often than not it just doesn't work. This is especially true of newer songs that are able to match the EQ levels more, i.e no noticeable differences in microphone quality with instruments and vocals, instruments are able to be louder and have more of an edge. All a vocal removal really does is *attempt* to cut out the treble frequencies, which, as was pointed out before, will be destructive to the instrumental track as well. Typically, karaoke tracks are almost never unsolicited, it's why you can't just put any cd into a karaoke player. Specially produced disks usually containthe ready-made instrumentals. If you're lucky, it's an artist-submitted or provided instrumental through their own multitrack, otherwise it's someone else's instrumental. Needless to say the vocal removal is never automatically performed by the machine in question.

I think I heard the same video a few days ago. And I tried it for myself but sadly I didn't get any good results. Some steps even didn't work well as they should.
