how do you extract a dat file? i've been wondering this for a long long while.

I guess that you want to extract a sounds.dat file? If yes, if game was written on bgt you need a decription key which was used to encript the sounds. Then you need a sound pack extracter which you can write or find someware I don't have it and using the decription key extract those sounds. Don't know how to extract the .dat soundfiles for games which was made on python or hsp but think that you just need to write a decriptor on language on which games was made.

even sounds.dats are very different since it is not a standardized format. it can even be tar packaged, zipped, dflated, isoficated or dilimited joined. bits can be inverted and reversed...
