Hi everyone,
I would like to switch from IOS to Android, but when I try talkback on someone's phone it feels pritty slow to me.
I am not sure how to explain it but there is some latency between swiping right and hearing the actual speech.
I hope this makes sence, but is there anything you can do about it or is this something I should get used to?
And that, is why you shouldn't do this.

It probably comes down to the phone's specs as well. On my Xiaomi a2, it works great for my feel. Commentary screen reader works better on lower end phones, so I've heard, but the experiences I had weren't as good, so I rather use Talk Back.

Oh ok, I will get someone's old google pixle to test it so I am curious if it will be any good.
And that, is why you shouldn't do this.

hello. I think that talkback works a little slow for yu because it uses angle jestures and it needs some time to analise that you only swiping rite or left and do not swiping rite and down, left and up or etc.

It also depends on the used speech engine. Google TTS became really sluggish in the last years.

I used google TTS indeed, would eloquence for example work better, or vocaliser?
And that, is why you shouldn't do this.

Eloquence is no longer officially available, but most of you probably know where to find it. Vocalizer and Acapela TTS are good choices, also the opensource RHVoice and of course eSpeak are worth a try.

also you could try to use jieshuo screenreader instead of talkback. It works much faster.

In the 2 minutes I had an android device (the firmware is fried and the device will no longer boot), I used commentary screen reader and it worked really well for me. TalkBack would sometimes work fine, but sometimes, it would lag like there was no tomorrow. That's what I get for using Google TTS and Mediatek hardware, I guess.

What is the difference between commentary and Talkback?

They are two different screenreaders.

If I am not mistaken, Commentary has add-ons like nvda.
And the paid version has cool stuf such as an automatic chat reader for whatsapp and many other supported social networks.
And that, is why you shouldn't do this.

Of course, so with a screenreader like Commentary, it becomes even more easier to let someone install malware onan android. If anyone asked why, it's due to the fact that android isn't protected against viruses that much so anyone is able to put anything and everything in the addon, and naive users will install it no questions asked.

Yes, when downloading an add-on people could implement mallware, but it's a small chance I think.
And that, is why you shouldn't do this.

It has as much chance as downloading an addon without malware. I don't know if the method of purchasing the screenreader has changed since I've last heard how to do it. I mean, I'm in hopes it already has an official, legal way, without any shady stuff an english speaker doesn't understand.

We need more Apples in this world, right? Walled gardens, notorization, no customization whatsoever, etc. I'm slowly but surely switching to Linux, and the next phone I get will most definitely be android. There's this little thing called common sense that nobody seems to have anymore. Trust me, it's the best antivirus you can get, and it doesn't cost a penny.

Tell me, what do you want to customize that much? Go on though, noone is forcing anything. Let me warn you to keep your iPhone though, because most users who migrate to android switch bacck after a few months. :)
