Hi

I use google as my default page in internet explorer. Now recently, I keep on getting this page, that talks about taking part in a survey done by google online and off. How do I get rid of that? So, that just the search page comes up. There is a link that says opt out but that only works if you are subscribed and taking part. Or so I understand. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Please do the following:
Open Internet Explorer.
Then press Alt T to open the tools menu and press up arrow and enter on Internet options.
Once you are there, press the Tab key until you have reached Default button and press enter.
Then press enter on the apply button and enter on the Okay button and then close your Internet Web browser.
Then restart Internet Explorer and see which Web site is comming up.

Hi, got the problme sorted out. Alt t doesn't work in windows 8 so had to do a search for internet settings. I found it, and changed google.com to google.co.za and that works.

I'm glad you figured it out. Although I must say, I'm using Internet browser with Windows 10 and I'm still able to use the option Alt T with Internet Explorer to go to the tools menu.

Maybe she didn't have IE open at the time, smiles.

I did have IE open, smiles. Unfortunately it didn't work, have no idea why.

Still, you could navigate there in the menu with just the alt key, then arrow left or right to tools. Strange technology sometimes indeed.

Then there must be a problem with your keyboard.
I had that once with the fall Creator's update of Microsoft last year and I think Klango may have been the blame for this. Try and see what you can do with the Alt key in another program, for instance, Windows media player.

Or maybe the keyboard got switched to the UK format or something.

Could be!

But I don't see why they shouldn't have an Alt key. In fact, I think the Alt key is on the same position in most, if not all, layouts.

Well, for some languages, it happens that the keyboard layout turns out to be different but it should be by all means possible to change the layout of the keyboard.

The UK one only has the alt key on the left, since the right one is used for making the vowels do their umlaut thing or whatever. It has been too long since I've had any dealings with the UK keyboard.

Yeah, but I always use the left Alt key, and that should be the same in most, if not all, layouts. But the right one can differ indeed, in the German layout, it acts as Alt + Control.

how very strange, in all layouts I have installed now, UK English included, the right alt key acts as alt control, except in US English, where it's just right alt.

I haven't changed any languages, at least when it comes to the keyboard. I use the alt on the left side, close to the spacebar. When I use alt d in internet explorer to type in a new address, that works. Haven't tried anything in windows media yet.

That's strange. Usually, you have to press Control O to type a new Web address. Also, if your keyboard is set for the US language, you can press the Alt key on both sides of the space bar.

Control o doesn't work, that's why I had to use alt d. Agree, it is strange.

I think she is using Windows 8. If so, she is probably using Modern Internet Explorer. That would be why the ALT key doesn't go to the menu.
