Wątek: security hole in TapinRadio favorites backup

Hi,

for any TapinRadio pro users I strongly recommend you to temporarily disable online favorites backup. Searching through google for things related to a radio station I own, I found out that *every* user's favorite XML file is publicly accessible to the web. There is a unprotected directory listing which holds not just the personal favorites, but also gives access to email addresses of TapinRadio users. I won't publish the link here, but an e-mail with further details has been sent to the developers. Hopefully this will be fixed soon. Having private or even password-protected streams available to the public is not that good I think.

I gave up on that program when they stopped letting the free version get station updates.

I already purchased the pro version long before the free version has been discontinued, and I still like the program.
Meanwhile I got an reply to my email, saying that they promis to turn of their directory listing within the next days.

I also gave up on that program. What's the point paying for a program where you find more broken radio stations than anything else. I could understand this from Klango that there were many broken radio stations but I was the only one there who cared for the media catalog and I tried to fix as many radio stations as I could. But here with Tapin radio, there are radio stations in there that have not been fixed since years!

But this doesn't make the program itself unusable, stations still can be added manually.
Maintaining a worldwide list of radio stations by hand is always a huge challenge. Even the big players like TuneIn or VTuner have tons of broken items in their catalogs. The problem with such services is that radio station owners often don't have the possibility to edit or delete their records themselves after they have been sent in, and some stations probably don't know in which directories someone added them.

A better solution is the wiki-like database at radio-browser.info. The service runs fully automated and every station is being checked on a regular basis if it is still available. Broken links are marked, and if they aren't back online after a few months or someone posted a new stream URL, they will be removed from the database. And best of all: Their database is free and opensource, everyone is allowed to build apps around it. Maybe a better media catalog solution for elten?

If I can have it my way, we may have a better media catalog in Elten; but as for now, I still don't have any access to the media catalog. Maybe after a future update.
And concerning V-Tuner, they do replace the URL's of the radio stations they have there; although, I must admit, it takes them a while but eventually, they are replaced or removed.

Concerning radio-browser.info, it's a good Web site but I can't play any radio station with Winamp. Do I need to change something? I'm using Internet Explorer but it doesn't work iether with Microsoft Edge or with Google Chrome.

Yeah, thanks to crappy javascript the site has some accessibility issues and the behaviour is a little different in each browser. But it should be usable nevertheless. There are some unlabeled buttons and links for each station record. First one is the playlist file for external players, second is the radio's homepage. I suggest to use your screen reader's quick navigation key for links to jump to the desired station (k in most cases). Clicking on the first link should start a radio.pls download. Do not use the format link above, this would place the station into an online player.

Well with Internet Explorer, when I press enter on the file for the external player, nothing happens. What may happen is when I use Microsoft Edege or Google Chrome, the file may start to download.

The same here. While most media players are free of charge, except for the pro versions, I will certainly not pay for a program like tapin Radio. I can't understand why they don't have a free version available any longer of this program.

Maybe because no one bought it in that time

No! Radio-Sure is still not conpatible with Windows 10. Also, they have many radio stations that are broken and of which they do not replace the URL's of these radio stations.

Hmm, I used Radio sure a short time ago, like 2 months, on windows 10. So I don't know what you mean.

Radio Sure does work on Windows 10 but sadly, it has a lot of broken stations.

Oh my god tapin radio was awesome!
I really want to find a great alternative for it! The same is about tuneIn radio for iOs, because there are also lots of broken stations too!
