The year is 1942. Japan invaded Burma, cutting China out of the outside world. The Chinese government decided to organize a force consisting of the best 100000 soldiers and called it "Chinese expeditionary force".
At the same time, allies have opened the air route through the himalayas, allowing a way for the CHinese soldiers to reach India for training.
During the travel, a C46 airplane carrying these soldiers and US pilots got shot by the japanese. EVeryone got killed except just an one soldier: Qin Luo.
Do you have everything it takes to protect your dear motherland?

I absolutely love 1942. Its the best audio game ever released. The story and mechanics are just awesome, and if you like strategy games, you'll have hours and hours of fun

Shady tools? What do you mean exactly? Locale emulator and a simple translator. Aren't they that really shady? :D If you realised, he put a link which tells you how to play it in english. I haven't tried it yet, but if there's really a way to do so, it mustn't be that hard.

Shady tools? Locale Emulator is open source, so you can view its code.
The translation addon for non-visual is open source, and so you can view its code.

For some weird reasons 1942 doesn't start for me though. I have everything needed: locale emulator set to chinese simplified, clipreader and translate, and I even tried to run it as admin but nothing. It asked me to install direct play so I did, but after that I get no signs of the game loading or anything. What should I do? I even tried to reinstall locale emulator, added both LE and 1942 to defender's exclusions, but nothing.

Try installing Microsoft Visual C ++ redistributables. Do you know how to do it?

Still no success, it seems as if it couldn't start for some reasons. It doesn't throw any errors, remains totally silent and it doesn't even have a separate window.

It doesn't open that way either. Should I mess around with the time zone though? At the moment it's default, (UTC+09:00) Osaka, Sapporo, Tokyo

No, do not mess with timezone.
Try launching the game in compatibility mode with Win7.
