Hey guys. I have the acapela for NVDA. I want to make the voices do different sounds. For example the childrens voices can cry and laugh. I go to research how to do it. And it tells me I have to edit an NVDA file called “builtin.dic”. And it says that I should backup the original “builtin.dic” file before editing it, so that I can reverse my changes.
For those who don't know, builtin.dic is found in the installation folder of NVDA and contains few regular expression rules to handle text in a smart way. One of them is named “Break words that have numbers at the end” and it is the one interfering with the Acapela.
To tell NVDA not to use this rule you need to add a # character at the beginning of the next line, that should then look like the following:
# ((?:(?=\D)\w)+)(\d+) \1 \2 1 1
There is a number sign at the beginning which normally is not there. So I go to copy and put that number sign in the builtin.dic which I backed up before hand, and then I replace that file in to the original spot. I go to restart NVDA and I go to make it laugh but it doesn't do that after I enter a code like #AARGH01# but it doesn't laugh at all. Can anybody help me out here? I would really apreciate it.

nvda interprits punctuation! so you press insert p, until it says: none! or nothing.

Try going to preferences > punctuation/symbol pronunciation, find the # entry and change the send actual symbol to synthesizer option to always. I believe that's what I did, though forgive me if I'm wrong since i haven't done it in a while.
